A young Australian girl living in a small rural mining town prefers the company of her two imaginary friends, Pobby and Dingan, to real children. She ends up looking awkward during social gatherings and her only tangible friend is her older brother, Ashmol, who finds Pobby and Dingan annoying and often makes fun of them because he’s embarrassed by his sister’s behavior. Kelly-Anne’s and Ashmol’s father is an opal miner trying to earn a living, and their mother is busy trying to fit in as a member of the community. Both parents agree that it’s time for Kelly-Ann to move on and leave her fantasy world behind – but when they force her to grow up too fast with a hasty decision, Pobby and Dingan are killed and Kelly-Ann falls into a grief-stricken illness. The only one who can set things right is Ashmol.

“Spin” tells the story of a boy who loses his parents in a plane crash, is taken in by his uncle (Tucci), who then leaves him for ten years in the care of his Hispanic ranch hand (Blades) and his wife (Delany). Once in high school, Eddie (Merriman) reconnects with a girl from his past (Garces), and their growing interracial relationship teaches the sometimes-sullen Eddie to think of others before himself.

Leaving her provincial home, teenage Mutsuko arrives in Tokyo by train to take a job in a major automotive company but finds that she is employed by a small auto repair shop owned by Norifumi Suzuki. Suzuki’s hair-trigger temper is held somewhat in check by the motherly instincts of his wife, Tomoe, and his young son Ippei immediately bonds with Mutsuko as if she were his older sister. The Suzuki shop lies almost in the shadow of the Tokyo Tower as it rises steadily above the skyline during construction in 1958. Others in the neighborhood also are striving to better themselves as Japan continues to emerge from the shadow of war. Hiromi has just abandoned her shady life as a dancer to start a sake bar. Abandoned by his single mother, young Junnosuke is first handed off to Hiromi but she passes him off to Ryunosuke Chagawa, a struggling writer who runs a candy shop and only manages to sell adventure stories for boys as his serious novels continue to be rejected. Junnosuke is an avid reader of Chagawa’s stories and begins to idolize him upon learning about his authorship. Junnosuke also writes stories, and makes friends with Ippei and others when they discover his tales that show Japan in the hi-tech future of the 21st century.

Nanhe Jaisalmer lives a poor lifestyle in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, along with his mom, Sarla, and sister, Suman. Six years later he is now a tourist guide, able to converse in Italian, German, French, and English, even though he neglected to attend school, instead spent all his spare time watching Bobby’s movies, and became the main bread-earner for his family. He instantly gives his approval to Badal (a movie title starring Bobby) who wants to wed Suman. Nanhe is thrilled when he finds out that a Bobby will be appearing in ‘Yaar’ which is scheduled to be filmed in Jaisalmer and Barmer. One day while traveling on his camel, Raja, he comes to the rescue of none other than Bobby himself whose car was stuck in the sand dunes. He is thrilled when Bobby recognizes him, and they continue to meet secretly. Bobby encourages him to study, overcome a bully, Maggoo, as well as become a better person. When invitations are sent out for Suman’s wedding, he gives one to Bobby, who promises to also attend the ceremony. The wedding takes place but Bobby neglects to keep his promise leaving a much disappointed Nanhe to figure out the reason(s) behind Bobby’s absence.

After his departure, Mahima is abused, belittled, and treated like a servant. Things come to climax when Pratap becomes paralyzed due to an accident, which is blamed on Mahima; then two gold bangles go missing and Mahima is accused of stealing them; and finally Mahima is caught in a compromising position with Randhir, Suman’s brother.

In the Summer of 1993, Frida, a six-year-old little girl, leaves Barcelona and her grandparents for the countryside. After her father, her mother has just died of a mysterious illness. Taken in by her uncle Esteve and aunt Marga, Frida discovers her new environment, an old stone farmhouse in a mountainous area close to a dense forest. Her new “parents” prove friendly. Another good point is that they have a three-year old daughter named Anna who can become a playmate. For another child less disturbed than miserable uprooted Frida, this would be the most idyllic of stays, in other words a permanent vacation. But Frida IS disturbed and if there are undeniably good times at her new “home”, there is also the unexpressed pain which makes her both feel sad and behave badly. Will Frida overcome her troubles ?
