Movies like “The Odyssey”

The film consists of 24 continuous shorts by 24 groups of filmmakers telling the complete story of THE ODYSSEY, Homer’s epic in 24 chapters. The story begins at the end of a war, the invasion of Troy by the Greeks, and chronicles the 10-year journey home of one warrior, Odysseus. Having offended Poseidon, the God of the Sea, Odysseus is thwarted at every turn in his voyage, and even passes through the realm of the dead before reaching Ithaka, his kingdom. The epic hints at what it might mean to travel to wage war, to then try to return to the point of departure, and to have both left behind and carried home chaos.

It is loosely based on Hans Christian Anderson’s classic fairy tale. Because the evil prince Laird did not inherit the crown of Corazion, he sought his revenge by secretly switching his newborn daughter with that of his brother’s, King Heath. The real princess is raised as a peasant, unaware of her royal lineage. Years later, Prince Rollo comes to the kingdom in search of a wife. Unless Sebastian, the court historian, discovers the secret of the pea, dire consequences await the kingdom of Corazion. The plot thickens when Rollo meets and falls in love with a peasant girl. Though she is everything his heart desires, she is not a princess. With time running out, Laird returns with a scheme that could put him on the throne. The characters all come together for an exciting castle top finale, in which the fate of the kingdom will finally be decided.

Like many of the white in the area, he does not associate with the Inuit except for what he can get out of them in bartering. On a personal plane trip, he runs across a small family of nomadic Inuit. The female of the group, named Kanaalaq, has what Charlie suspects is tuberculosis. In exchange for some ivory, Charlie agrees to fly her to a hospital in Yellowknife. En route back to the city, Charlie is forced to make a crash landing when the plane develops mechanical problems. Although both Charlie and Kanaalaq are unharmed by the crash, the plane is totaled, they are in the middle of nowhere, the radio doesn’t seem to be working, they have a meager amount of supplies, and Charlie’s whereabouts are probably unknown to others since he made a detour from his original route. Furthermore, they can’t communicate with each other as Kanaalaq only knows a few words of English, whereas Charlie knows no Inuktituk. According to his map, Charlie estimates it is one hundred miles to the closest town and decides to walk. He soon learns that he is not well equipped for outdoor life in the north, at least not as well equipped as Kanaalaq, who is in her element. He figures that things can only get worse for both him dealing with the elements and Kanaalaq suffering from her illness as the winter snows approach.
